The incident took place when he was visiting Bournemouth town centre
A man who was seen “dragging and kicking” his pet dog in Bournemouth town centre has been banned from keeping dogs for seven years.
Arnoldas Kalkauskas (date of birth: 21/12/1994) of Cleveland Road, South Woodford, London, admitted an animal welfare offence, following an investigation and prosecution by the RSPCA.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing him mistreating his dog, a cockapoo named Pablo, as he walked in the vicinity of Lansdowne Road, Bournemouth, in Dorset on 15 September 2022.
He was tracked down to his home address in London during the investigation by the RSPCA.
In their report, the vet said, “In my opinion, the act of dragging and kicking Pablo would have caused him to suffer physiologically and psychologically. Kalkauskas failed to protect Pablo from pain and caused unnecessary suffering.”
RSPCA Inspector Miranda Albinson, who helped to investigate for the animal welfare charity, said: “We’re always grateful to members of the public who kindly speak up for animals and report anything they witness which causes them concern. Animals feel pain, fear and distress, just as we do, and deserve to always be safe from harm.”
In mitigation, it was said that Kalkauskas had been drinking heavily following the death of his father six months before the incident.
Alongside the disqualification from owning dogs, he must also carry out 120 hours of unpaid work and pay a £150 fine. He no longer owns Pablo or any other pets. He was sentenced at Barkingside Magistrates Court after being brought to court on warrant on March 17.
