Dorset Man Who Targeted Jewish Community Charged

Local officers have charged a suspect following reports of hate crime incidents targeting members of the Jewish community in Boscombe.

Two reports were received on the morning of Tuesday, 10 March 2026, of separate incidents where a man is alleged to have verbally abused two Jewish men in the area of Manor Road.

One of the victims was also reportedly subjected to further abuse by the same man on the morning of Wednesday 18 March 2026, with the suspect again reportedly making reference to the victim’s Jewish heritage.

A detailed investigation was launched by the local neighbourhood policing team, which led to a suspect – a 45-year-old local man – being identified and arrested.

He has now been charged with three counts of a religiously aggravated public order offence, as well as an offence of criminal damage in relation to reported damage to a police cell while in custody, and is due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 20 March 2026.

Police Constable Jo Morgan, of Bournemouth East Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We are committed to taking action against all reported hate crime towards members of our faith communities in the local area.

“Following these reports, we have taken swift and decisive action, which has resulted in a suspect being identified and charged.

“This matter will now be the subject of active court proceedings and it is vital that the judicial process be allowed to follow its course without prejudice. We would urge members of the public to refrain from speculation or commentary, particularly online and on social media.

“Our team will continue to provide visible reassurance patrols in the area and engage with all our local faith communities during this time of heightened tensions in light of global events.”
