Together with the rest of the board, they will help guide Dorset Mind in tackling mental health stigma, with a particular focus on ensuring the charity’s governance holds it in good stead as its services respond to the current mental health crisis and expand across the county.

World Mental Health Day 2024: “It’s time to prioritise mental health

We’re currently in the middle of a mental health crisis. Many of us are being left behind by a broken mental health system.

We know that alongside two million people, currently stuckon NHS waiting lists, there are many more people who feelunable to reach out for the help they need for fear of being judged or not taken seriously.

Many will reach crisis point.

Dorset Mind believes this can be avoided if people in Dorset can access the right support at the right time – and before their issues escalate into serious long-term problems.

People like Jean who said the support she received from an Active Monitoring Practitioner recently helped her understand what she was going through, “They actually listen to what’s wrong without patronising or invalidating my feelings, but instead helped me to break down each part and explained certain things to me in a way I’d be able to understand.”

Call to Action:

For World Mental Health Day, Dorset Mind calls on businesses, employees, family members and individuals to take shared responsibility for the mental health of themselves and others around them – not just at work, but at home too. Let’s unite as a community to raise awareness and createsupportive environments throughout Dorset where mental wellbeing is a priority.

Visit Dorset Mind’s website to find out about the support we offer across Dorset for adults and young people aged 9, upwards.

To get involved on World Mental Health Day why not spread the word about Dorset Mind’s services to help ensure that no mind is left behind?

You can also actively help us be there for people who need us by fundraising for us or by making a donation to us. All donations received stay within Dorset to help support local people.

Dorset Mind’s CEO, Linda O’ Sullivan comments:

“We’re excited to welcome such a talented group of people to our Board of Trustees at a time when mental health is increasingly under the spotlight. Their combined experience will be invaluable in driving Dorset Mind’s mission forward to create mentally healthier communities and environments. Andhelp us expand our services across the county to provide appropriate support that can be accessed at people’s time of need.

But we cannot do this alone – for World Mental Health Day, we are asking our communities to get behind us, to ensure we can be there to support local people.

Dorset Mind’s Patron, Dr Andy Mayers says:

“I am delighted with the changes to the Dorset Mind Trustee Board. Their expertise and passion for improving mental health in our community will be a true asset for us. These changes will help us drive forward plans to support more people across Dorset. World Mental Health Day this year is a great time to emphasise why we need to prioritise mental health. At Dorset Mind, we will continue to complement NHS services to ensure that nobody falls through the cracks.”
