Final preparations are being made to the Dorset One World Festival, a celebration of the diversity of cultures in Dorset through world music, dance, food, sport and activities.
The programme of live music, dance and cultural activities spans the globe including Ukraine, China, Africa, India, Latvia and Poland
Workshops include African and Polish Dance ( photo attached) introduction to Traditional Indian music and Chinese crafts.
The headline band – Dubheart from Bournemouth who recently won the award for the best reggae band in Europe.
You can enjoy a wide selection of cuisines from the Global Food Village whilst soaking up the cultural sights and sounds in the lovely setting of the Borough Gardens, Dorchester.
The kids and youth area with sports, world mask making workshops and procession.
A free community event that has something to appeal to all ages and cultures.
Highlights:
- 1.30 – Chinese Celebrity Master Chef Andy Chu will host the popular ‘cook off competition’ with the Mayor and Mayoress of Dorchester (
- Nepali Arts Project Exhibition marking 200 years of friendship between Britain and Nepal/ Traditional Nepali Dance and Authentic Nepali Food. The Festival will also be making a collection for the victims of the Nepal Earthquake Appeal through the Nepal
- 3pm – Tug of War Competition – Ghurkas compete with local teams
- Dubheart, voted best reggae band in Europe 2013 hailing form Bournemouth will headline. The World music marquee will host a diverse range of traditional music and dance from Europe
‘This year’s One World Festival, builds further on the great success of the year before, recognising the incredible richness of cultures that exist in our county and how important it is that we all celebrate being a part of One World, One Humanity. This year this has special significance with so many across all of our diverse communities coming together to support Nepal following its recent tragic earthquake: We are delighted that the festival will also play its part in this, with the symbolic importance of the Gurkha’s from the Blandford Garrison through a Tug of War that will take place.’ Adnan Chaudry, Chief Officer, Dorset Race Equality Council who support the event.
