Dorset Police and Crime Panel review PCC draft Police and Crime Plan

Police and Crime Commissioner Martyn Underhill’s draft five-year Police and Crime Plan for Dorset has been considered by members of the Dorset Police and Crime Panel.  The panel has taken the opportunity to make comments and recommendations on the draft plan for the Commissioner to consider.

The production of the Police and Crime Plan is a fundamental element of the Commissioner’s role. Its content is closely linked to the budget for 2013/14 and the amount of council tax paid towards policing.

The Commissioner said: “My draft Police and Crime Plan is informed by my discussions with the Chief Constable, the public and other partners.  In presenting my draft plan to the Police and Crime Panel for consideration, I have set out my vision for my term of office to work together to keep Dorset safe.  Six key priorities lie at the heart of my plan which are consistent with the pledges I made when I was elected.”

Those pledges are:

  • Reduce the number of victims of crime
  • Reduce the number of people seriously harmed
  • Protect the public from serious threats
  • Reduce re-offending
  • Increase people’s satisfaction in policing
  • Support neighbourhood policing.

Mr Underhill added: “My aim is to cut crime and the number of victims in our county. I want to give victims and citizens a bigger voice in policing to achieve a safer Dorset. I also want to create a more visible force which operates in the heart of the community, fighting crime and providing reassurance to communities”.
