A woman has been jailed for murder and attempted murder following a complex investigation by detectives into two deliberate road traffic collisions in Bournemouth.
Zoe Treadwell, aged 36 and from Bournemouth, has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 35 years.
Treadwell was found guilty of murdering 28-year-old Joey Johnstone by pursuing and striking him with her Range Rover in South Kinson Drive during the early hours of Wednesday, 9 April 2025.
She was also found guilty of attempting to murder a second man and causing grievous bodily harm with intent to a third man in relation to a second deliberate collision that occurred on Kinson Road on Thursday, 1 May 2025.
A second defendant, 25-year-old Jonjay Harrison from Bournemouth, was sentenced to 32 years in prison after being found guilty of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm with intent in relation to the May collision.
Both incidents were investigated by Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT), which included carrying out CCTV trawls, taking numerous witness statements, analysing DNA samples taken from the involved vehicles, and completing vehicle speed analysis using gathered CCTV and Ring doorbell footage.
MCIT established a connection between the two collisions, and a trial combining the two cases began at Winchester Crown Court on Monday, 27 October 2025.
Treadwell and Harrison were found guilty by a jury and were sentenced at the same court on Thursday, 15 January 2026.
Sophie, Joey’s partner, said: “No amount of time will ever bring our Joe back, but we can try and move forward now that justice has been served. We can put this to bed and finally grieve as a family after these heart-breaking painful nine months.
“Joey will be forever loved and missed by myself, his parents Tony and Michelle, his three beautiful children, and his other family and friends. May you rest in peace my beautiful blue-eyed boy. You are forever in our hearts.”
Detective Inspector Mark Jenkins, of Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “The violent and senseless actions of Zoe Treadwell and Jonjay Harrison resulted in the tragic death of Joey Johnstone, serious injuries to a second man, and devastating, life-altering injuries for a third man.
“Both collisions involved young men being pursued on electric motorbikes around residential streets in Bournemouth simply because of a dispute which had occurred between two groups of associates.
“The investigation team has worked extensively to gather all the evidence available, and we were able to demonstrate how Treadwell had intended to kill Mr. Johnstone before plotting with Jonjay Harrison on the collision that occurred the following month.
“We are pleased that Treadwell and Harrison are now behind bars and facing justice for their despicable offending.
“Our thoughts remain with Joey Johnstone’s partner, children and the rest of his family and friends.”
Kate Lewis, Senior District Crown Prosecutor of the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “These acts represent an appalling disregard for human life. On two separate occasions, a car was used as a weapon against three men, acts that were not accidents but intentional attempts to kill. Tragically, one of these attacks resulted in the loss of a young life, causing immeasurable pain to loved ones and the wider community.
“Joey Johnstone’s family lost a beloved partner, dad, and friend. Others were left with serious and life-changing injuries. Our thoughts remain with them all.
“We worked closely with Dorset Police to establish a compelling case demonstrating that the victims were deliberately identified, located, pursued, and ultimately harmed by Zoe Treadwell and Jonjay Harrison.
“The Crown Prosecution Service is committed to ensuring that offenders who bring senseless violence to our communities are prosecuted and face the full weight of the law.”
