Elements of the UK population enabled Jimmy Savile and Boris Johnson

People do not like being called ‘stupid’. Why would they? Where does ‘stupid’ start and end and ‘clever’ start and end? However, there are tell tale signs. If one does not do their own research and merely looks to reinforce their existing prejudices then that surely is ‘stupid’. If one however, does research and keeps a relatively open mind then they are more likely to be ‘clever.

The following article provides some nuance and detail.

A key example of Bonhoeffer’s thesis is the following:

Two men who appeal to a certain demographic and who are fooled by them even when the evidence is stacked to the sky.

As the wonderful Mark Twain observed

‘No amount of evidence will ever convince an idiot…’

As I stated above no one wants to be called stupid but surely the key is to avoid giving anyone the cause.
