Bournemouth Borough Council is among councils in Dorset where there will be no transaction charges for their cashless car parking service throughout August.

Bemrose Mobile, the company behind “Phone and Pay” parking will not charge any users for any transaction charges or SMS service charges for the whole of August in all local parking areas where the service operates during the school holidays.

Councillor Michael Filer, Cabinet Member for Transport said, “Of course, the motorist will still need to pay the normal parking tariff, but we wanted to do our bit as a thank you to the motorists in Bournemouth who have already signed up for the service.  We also want to encourage others who would like to use the service, making it easier for them to park, shop and play in the town and support local trade.”

The initiative follows a successful campaign at Christmas, where fees were waived to spread a little festive cheer and highlight to motorists the safety aspects of using “Phone and Pay”.

Councillor Filer added, “While motorists can still use cash, the cashless service offers flexibility and covers the majority of our car parks.  Motorists can also pay for a variety of ‘rover’ tickets using the cashless service, which offer great value to residents and visitors to the town.”

Motorists can register their vehicles and use “Phone and Pay” by visiting www.phoneandpay.co.uk, or calling 01202 804444 for Bournemouth car parks.

Further advice about where to park in Bournemouth, the types of tickets available and other parking information is available on the Council’s website www.bournemouth.gov.uk/parking, by telephoning the Car Parking Shop on 01202 454721, or by emailing [email protected].
