Weymouth Town Council are excited to announce that they will be working in partnership with We Are Weymouth to produce a new artwork mural trail in and around the town.

The trail will attract and engage with a wide range of Weymouth residents and visitors to explore artworks inspired by local history and culture. Artists will enhance the look and feel of existing buildings adding colour and design. This will bring an accessible, free walking trail that will promote the cultural development of Weymouth, providing physical and mental well-being and enjoyment to all. It will also encourage people to explore the town helping to increase footfall and economic benefit for local businesses following the pandemic.

The Council and We Are Weymouth want to make sure that we get the right subject matter and design for the murals and deliver something that the public will appreciate, enjoy, and have a sense of pride over having in their town. We want to hear from you to help us design the artworks. Your memories, stories and ideas will help inform and shape the artist’s designs.

Your ideas will need to have a link to Weymouth and be family friendly. This could include Weymouth history and heritage, links to the sea and seaside, the environment and landscape, local wildlife, etc.

Do you have any ideas or history that links to one of the proposed mural locations?

There are two ways to get involved and give us your ideas:

  • Email your ideas/stories to us at [email protected]. The online engagement will run from Thursday 19th August to Thursday 16th September.
  • Come and see us, we will have a stand by the New Look building on St. Thomas Street on Thursday 26th August from 10am – 12pm to explain more about the trail and take peoples’ mural trail ideas.

The mural trail is planned to be delivered next year (subject to our planning application) and be finished by July 2022. Once completed there will be a trail map to guide participants and learn more about the amazing artworks. There will also be further community engagement activities in May/June next year, watch this space!
