Spring is the perfect time to try out a new sport or activity and at Osprey Leisure Centre on Portland there are some new weird and wonderful experiences for you to try. Osprey Leisure Centre will be hosting a SPRING FAYRE OPEN DAY on Saturday 4th April from 10am until 2pm. The event will offer visitors a chance to try a range of activities for FREE including squash, badminton, table tennis, short mat bowls. Some multi sports activities for children and a bouncy castle. The centre will be offering an Easter Raffle and the opportunity to try some tasty homemade refreshments in the Legacy Cafe and there will be a BBQ. Each visitor will be given a voucher pack which will include a free squash or badminton session, £2.50 off a family swim and £3 off your bill in the café when it totals more than £10. All vouchers must be used by end of May. That’s a fantastic saving of £14.40 just for turning up.
Over the past few years the team at Osprey Leisure Centre has recognised that their members like to try new activities when looking for ways to keep fit, lose weight or simply enjoy being part of a group. The team of experts at the centre have been developing a programme of new activities for members to try one of these is a new pool activity Octopush which has been developed. Octopush is basically underwater hockey with a difference. Octopush involves pushing a puck with a stick underwater towards an opposite goal. This activity is not only great fun but is a fantastic way of keeping fit in the water.
Walking Football where teams strategically walk with the football towards their goal rather than the traditional running. This activity is hoped to be popular with older and younger members alike who enjoy a slower pace to the game. Walking Football will be introduced later this year.
Indoor Cricket Academy is a firm Winter favourite for all ages. Most of the same rules apply but the game takes place inside the large sports hall. Sessions also include expert coaching by a District coach.
Pump – Get lean, toned and fit, fast with the use of barbells and body weights.
Children are not forgotten in alternative activities, and now at Osprey the team offer a selection of children’s parties. Wet & Wild pool sessions are a firm favourite with children who can enjoy a fun packed hour with floats, balls, rings and woggles that are available in the pool area. If participants want music, they are encouraged to bring their own favourite tunes. (Max: 35 children in one session). New style Inflatable Pool Experiences have taken over from the regular pool party and visitors are encouraged tomake their way across Osprey’s new Obstacle Course Inflatable without falling in!
Nigel Williams, General Manager of the Osprey Leisure Centre said “We have something for everyone at the Leisure centre but we also have Volunteering which is by no means a new activity but it is a very valuable one. Osprey Leisure Centre is a registered charity and therefore relies on its team of volunteers to help in the community activities that the centre offers. The Legacy café is very popular with Leisure members and members of the general public, where a cup of tea and a generous slice of cake will cost you less than £3. The volunteers are on hand to help guide people around the centre and generally offer support to visitors to the centre. We are expecting a busy day on 4th April at our Open Day.”
