Police are investigating an alleged assault at St Pancras station in London and are seeking to bring a 42-year-old man into custody for questioning.
British Transport Police confirmed that the suspect, from Bedfordshire, boarded a flight out of the country in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Officers were called to the scene shortly after 8.40pm on Monday following reports of a serious assault. A man was taken to hospital with injuries described as serious but not believed to be life-threatening.
“Detectives are continuing to work closely to progress the investigation and bring the man into custody for questioning,” a police spokesperson said.
The incident follows the emergence of video footage appearing to show right-wing activist Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon, pacing near a man lying motionless at the station.
In the video, a concerned bystander is heard calling for help. Robinson is then heard shouting: “You saw him. He came at me, bruv. You saw that, he came at me.”
The footage does not show the moment of the alleged assault.
Robinson has since reposted a tweet claiming he acted in self-defence.
A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 8.40pm on Monday, 28 July, to reports of an assault at St Pancras International Rail Station, NW1. We sent an ambulance crew to the scene and treated a man before taking him to a major trauma centre.”
