Far Right Take Their Children On Demonstration And Attack Police Officer

A demonstration over UK immigration policies at Canary Wharf turned violent on Sunday, resulting in multiple arrests after masked protesters became “aggressive” and a police officer was assaulted.

The incident began outside the Britannia Hotel, where a small group of around a dozen anti-immigration protesters were met by a much larger counter-demonstration of approximately 100 people. The counter-protesters held banners with messages such as “stand up to racism” and “stop the far right.”

After the two groups were kept apart and subsequently dispersed by police, it is believed a number of protesters moved towards the nearby Canary Wharf shopping centre.

Within the shopping centre, a group of masked individuals became “aggressive” towards officers. In response, police issued a Section 60AA order, granting them the power to remove face coverings to prevent people from concealing their identity.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed three arrests were made for offences including common assault, possession of drugs, and assault on police/public order offences.

In a statement, a police spokesperson said: “One of our officers was punched in the face – luckily they have not suffered significant injury.”

Videos circulating on social media showed young children present among the protesters, with some seen wearing England flags. Officers at the scene noted the presence of minors, stating: “We are aware there are young children in the protest area and while we deal with any criminality our officers are ensuring the safety of them is paramount.”

The force has deployed additional officers to manage the ongoing demonstrations.
