Research suggests that the smelly gas in farts controls blood pressure in mice.
Research found that cells lining mice’s blood vessels naturally make the gas, and this action helped lower the rodents’ blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels to prevent high blood pressure. This gas is “no doubt” produced in cells lining human blood vessels too, the researchers claimed.
The study revealed that fart stink – hydrogen sulphide – controls blood pressure, and commenters are already becoming enthusiastic about the prospects for utilising this new research.
“Now that we know hydrogen sulphide’s role in regulating blood pressure, it may be possible to design drug therapies that enhance its formation as an alternative to the current methods of treatment for hypertension.”

Besides the smell, there are other reasons why releasing gas may be a useful way to reducing blood pressure:
Relieving Gas and Bloating – Trapped gas can cause discomfort, bloating, and even mild pain, which can lead to temporary increases in blood pressure due to stress and tension. Farting helps release this pressure, allowing the body to relax.
Reducing Stress – Holding in gas can create discomfort and stress, which may contribute to higher blood pressure. Letting it out can promote relaxation, potentially leading to a small decrease in blood pressure.
Improving Digestion – A healthy digestive system supports overall well-being. Excess gas can indicate digestive issues that may contribute to inflammation, which is linked to high blood pressure.
Thus, next time someone admonishes you for farting, just explain that you have high blood pressure and it has been prescribed as part of your treatment.
