I read with disappointment the news that Weymouths Pavilion theatre could close by the end of March 2013 and end up as a car park. The Council are under pressure to cut costs and have no doubt had to make some difficult decisions on which areas to cut spending. The Pavilion is one of those.

Weymouth needs a professional theatre but equally, it needs to be putting on a bill that is attractive to locals of all ages, as well as tourists.

I am keen to do everything I can to keep the theatre open and to make it an attractive option to artists, bands, comedians, and touring productions that perhaps previously were not aware of it.

I would therefore ask all interested parties who have ideas on how the future of the Pavilion can be made robust, to contact me by email at [email protected]

I will say quite firmly at this point, those of you with comments like “close it, it’s an eye sore”, don’t even risk yourself the RSI by emailing.

I want to hear from people interested in keeping it alive. Positive, forward thinking suggestions and concepts are needed and welcomed here. You can of course email me directly or sign up to our forum to discuss it online with others: https://www.dorsetmusicguide.com/forum/
