Thirty thousand and six hundred households across Bournemouth will be doing their bit for the environment this year, as Bournemouth Borough Council’s green waste collections start on 7 April.

Collections take place fortnightly between April and November. Collections will take place throughout the day into the evening. Residents should make sure their bins are out on the pavement by 6am.

Calendars detailing collection dates together with information about what can go in the green waste bins have been sent to registered households. Green waste bins have also been delivered to newly registered residents.

Councillor Michael Filer, Cabinet Member for waste said, “We are very proud of the success and popularity of our green waste scheme which is provided at no extra cost to the residents. Gardeners have embraced this service wholeheartedly and are helping to increase recycling in Bournemouth. With the start of the big gardening season upon us we hope all our registered users will make the most of the service once again.”

The green waste collected will be recycled into compost and woodchip by Bournemouth’s waste partners Eco Sustainable Solutions.  Over 4182 tonnes of garden waste was composted in 2013.
