Small businesses in Dorset are invited to attend a free one-day conference to find out more about how they can take on an apprentice and tackle their recruitment challenges.

The Apprenticeships 2.0 Conference is being hosted by Dorset Careers Hub, a local government body working with schools and businesses to deliver excellence in careers education, and takes place on 29 June 2022 at the RNLI College in Poole.

The special event aims to change the perception of apprenticeships and show the benefits that taking on an apprentice can bring to businesses, both in the short and long term.

Expert speakers with direct experience will provide real-world insights and help to demystify the process with the additional aim of increasing the number and quality of apprenticeships offered in Dorset.

The event is completely free of charge and available to 50 business delegates from across Dorset. It is being delivered by Dorset Careers Hub as part of its wider Apprenticeship 2.0 initiative which combines events and research to change perceptions and improve uptake in the county. A head teachers business lunch, Parent/Carer careers & coffee morning, and a research project are also running alongside the conference.

Conference attendees will gain networking opportunities, a first-hand experience of the apprentice journey, advice in attracting and retaining the best apprentices and access to the latest labour market information.

Funded by Careers and Enterprise Company and Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership and in partnership with BCP Council and Dorset Council, Dorset Careers Hub brings together employers, schools and colleges to transform local careers education and help young people in Dorset progress into promising careers and fulfil their potential.

Rebecca Philips, Strategic Lead for Dorset Careers Hub said: “Apprentices are a really great recruitment option for small businesses and provide an exciting pathway for local young people looking to embark on a promising career.  We’re focused on dispelling outmoded negative perceptions and changing the way that students feel about the amazing range of ‘earn-while-you-learn’ opportunities. We have some expert speakers who have benefited massively from the scheme and who will be on hand to help others understand the process from both an employer and applicant perspective. We’re really pleased to be able to host the event free of charge and in the stunning facilities of the RNLI”

Dorset Careers Hub’s Apprentice 2.0 Conference takes place on 29 June 2022 8.30am – 3.30pm at RNLI College Poole. For further information and registration click here.
