This year, Bournemouth residents, who bring their current council tax bill, will be able to get their compost on a first-come first-served basis from Slades Farm on 3 May and King’s Park on 11 May. At Slades Farm the giveaway will be in the car park on Ensbury Avenue next to the community centre. Both events will run from 9.00am until 1.00pm or when the compost runs out, whichever comes first.
Residents will also need to bring their own bags or containers totalling no more than 70 litres for collecting the compost. In previous years, the compost had all gone by mid-morning.
Bournemouth Council’s grand give-away is a as a big ‘thank you’ for residents’ efforts in recycling their garden waste.
Georgina Fry, Waste & Resource Projects Manager, said, “Bournemouth’s waste partner Eco Sustainable Solutions has donated eight tonnes of compost this year, which means for the first time, we can run two events, so we can spread the benefit, and the compost, across the Borough.”
Councillor Michael Filer, cabinet member for waste, added, “It’s brilliant thatwe are able to give something back to all those who have helped make our fabulous and free green waste collection service so popular. The eight tonnes of compost is up for grabs to anyone living in Bournemouth and I hope many green fingered enthusiasts will come along on the day to have a share for their gardens.”
Waste Awareness officers from Bournemouth will also be on hand to talk to people about recycling and composting matters.
The Kings Park Collection Point operates from 9am till1pm every Sundayduring April to November at the lorry park in Kings Park allowing residents to drop off any excess green waste. Access is via Holdenhurst Road.
A total of 30,600 households subscribe to the Council’s green waste service.
