Prime Minister,
I mentioned your possible residence on Pluto the other day, and now I’m wondering just how accurate that statement was.
In today’s links we see how your government has driven China away by having the effrontery to comment adversely on its human rights record, when your own government has passed a law making assembly less free than it has ever been, as well as the Gagging Law. Now, coupled with that, the Foreign Secretary presumes that his warning over Russia’s behaviour in Ukraine will alienate it from the rest of the world carries any weight at all.
It cannot have escaped anyone’s notice that Russia and China are developing ever-closer economic ties, and nor can it be any kind of secret that China now represents a huge export market for America. So, far from losing points in the economic league tables of the world, Russia is actively working to ensure that it will have channels to western goods and services, as well as to ship its own products into the West, mainly via its Chinese neighbour. Obviously the Foreign Office wallahs have never heard of re-badging, where the products made by one company are given the insignia of another. Thus, Russian goods will continue to enter the West without any great difficulty under Chinese branding. William Hague’s assessment of Russia’s future economic prospects are therefore nothing more than blunderbuss politics and carry about as much value as one of your promises.
It beats me why you just cannot come out and admit that letting Hague keep wobbling his gob over the Ukrainian issue, when Russia couldn’t give a damn about what he says anyway, is nothing more than a ploy to keep the burner alight under this issue in order to justify your fracking buddies’ unwanted activities. And, while we’re on that particular subject, perhaps one of your less-than-expert Ministers (one who’s still in his/her job, that is) might care to explain why it is that we export most of our own gas to the rest of the world and then end up tied into contracts with the likes of GazProm to IMPORT the stuff from Russia?? Is this an employment ploy, where there’s a specially trained civil servant to make that particular cross-entry in the official sales and purchase ledgers? Personally I reckon it’s just the usual problem of the government’s right hand not knowing what the left is doing.
Seriously, all I see these days is a bunch of half-arsed amateurs, making half-arsed decisions and comments about subjects they apparently know little or nothing about, while at the same time putting both feet in their mouths over matters such as human rights comparisons between our own nation and others. It’s no wonder that we now have that label of being that little island that no-one listens to any more, is it?
Sincerely,
Darren Lynch
