The hunt for unsung heroes who have given up their spare time to help others has begun in Weymouth and Portland.
Weymouth & Portland Borough Council is once again calling on residents to nominate members of the community for this year’s Good Citizens Awards.
The awards are a chance to recognise the generosity and commitment of those who have dedicated their time and effort to making an outstanding contribution to the community, outside of paid employment, during 2016.
Winners have been recognised for things such as volunteering with Weymouth Citizens’ Advice Bureau, services to the British Legion and charity and community fundraising.
An under 18s category has been reopened for nominations in order to recognise young good citizens living in the borough.
Cllr Richard Kosior, Mayor of Weymouth and Portland, said: “I really enjoy hearing about all the great work being carried out by residents of the borough.
“If you know of someone who you think deserves to be recognised for their hard work, please get in touch with the borough council and help reward their efforts.”
Nomination forms can be downloaded on the council’s website at dorsetforyou.com/goodcitizensaward or via reception at the council offices, Commercial Road.
The nominator and the nominee must both live in the borough.
Completed forms should be returned to the council office, Commercial Road or emailed to [email protected] by Saturday 31 December 2016.
A panel of councillors will meet in January to judge the nominations received and the awards will be presented by the Mayor at a ceremony in April 2017.
