Everyone is being offered a chance to enjoy one of Weymouth’s popular beach chalets this summer.
Weymouth & Portland Borough Council has 18 chalets available for residents to bid on for this summer.
There are chalets at Greenhill Gardens, Weymouth Esplanade and Greenhill Play Gardens available.
People have from now until noon on Friday 6 March to apply for a chalet.
Cllr Colin Huckle, Weymouth & Portland Borough Council’s Finance & Assets Briefholder said:
“If you have always wanted one of the Greenhill Chalets now is the time to bid for one.
“The council has decided to invite bids for 18 chalets which are currently empty. All waiting lists have been scrapped and everyone has a chance to bid.
“It is important that we keep these popular facilities in use until we find the best way forward to protect and maintain the chalets in the future.”
People interested in bidding for a chalet can get an application pack from the borough council’s Property Services Team by calling 01305 252356 or email [email protected]
Applicants will know shortly after 6 March whether their application is successful. People who are successful will be able to use their chalet from 1 April to 1 October 2015.
Councillors agreed at the borough council’s Management Committee in January to extend those who had been granted a winter licence a chance to extend their licence through the coming summer months until 1 October 2015 and offer vacant chalets from 1 April until 1 October 2015 while the borough council looks into the best way forward for the future of the Greenhill Chalets and associated facilities.
The borough council is not disposing of Greenhill Gardens. It will still own, manage and maintain the gardens and they will be fully accessible to residents and visitors.
