A photo call to mark the completion of the annual charity carpet bedding display at Greenhill Gardens took place in the gardens earlier today. Cllr Ann Weaving, Mayor of Weymouth was present along with Cllr Ken Whatley (councillor for Melcombe Regis), Greenhill gardeners, Weymouth Town Council’s Parks & Open Spaces Manager and trustees from MV Freedom.

Each year, Weymouth Town Council’s gardeners skilfully recreate the logo or crest of a local charitable organisation in a fitting floral tribute. The eye-catching beds are planted at Weymouth’s Greenhill Gardens for everyone to enjoy, providing a popular attraction for residents and visitors to the town.

MV Freedom were chosen as the charitable organisation for 2022, which is fitting in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year because the organisation was awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service last year. The charity provides access to the sea for people living with disabilities.

Dirk Aldous, Chairman of the Friends of MV Freedom said: “On behalf of the trustees and myself, I express our sincere thanks and delight for this wonderful recognition that can only help those living with disability even more through our enjoyable and therapeutic sea going trips.

“This will act as a further incentive to our very committed and hardworking volunteers to carry on providing enjoyable and empowering sea trips for those living with disability. For it to be happening during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year makes it even more special and is a marvellous reinforcement of last year’s receipt of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.”

Cllr Ann Weaving, Mayor of Weymouth said: “The flowerbed is looking absolutely fantastic and represents an amazing local cause. Thousands of plants have been used to recreate the MV Freedom logo, so a big thank you to the council gardeners who have worked hard during the hot summer months to design this special flowerbed.”
