Today, Weymouth Town Council is celebrating after receiving a Green Flag Award for Greenhill Gardens and Sandsfoot Gardens, which were named among 2,208 UK winners.

The Keep Britain Tidy award is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces, and was announced during Love Parks Week, which runs throughout the week.

After two years that have seen our parks and green spaces play a vital role for people through lockdowns as a place to relax, exercise and meet friends and family safely, the news that both Greenhill and Sandsfoot Gardens have achieved the Green Flag Award for another year is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team that make these green spaces a great place for everyone to enjoy.

Keep Britain Tidy’s Accreditation Manager Paul Todd said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved in making Greenhill Gardens and Sandsfoot Gardens worthy of a Green Flag Award.

“These are vital green spaces for the community in Weymouth. This award is testament to all the hard work of staff and volunteers, who do so much to ensure that it maintains the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.”

Cllr Ann Weaving, Mayor of Weymouth, said: “I’m absolutely delighted that Greenhill Gardens and Sandsfoot Gardens have been awarded Green Flag status once again. They are both such beautiful places that boast wonderful views of the Dorset coastline. Congratulations to the team at Weymouth Town Council for all the hard work that has taken place to help us win the Green Flag Awards.”

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
