Group Getaway Goals: 5 Staycations You’ll All Love

Going on holiday can be tremendously rewarding when you’re doing it in the company of a few of the special people in your life.  An excellent group adventure, however, needs to be sufficiently well planned if it’s going to go without a hitch – and among the most important considerations is your choice of destination.

Fortunately, some of the best holiday destinations for groups are to be found right here in the United Kingdom. Let’s take a look at a few of the best of them.

Cornwall – Coastal Adventures & Beach Days

The southwest is arguably the best part of the country if you’re looking for a remote, sun-drenched holiday. Whether you’re going to be surfing, hiking, or doing a little bit of both, Cornwall is sure to appeal. It’s even compelling during the winter, when there are fewer tourists to bump into. Large groups might consider Newquay, Padstow, St. Ives, and a trip along the South West Coast Path.

The Lake District

The Lake District is arguably the best-known of the UK’s national parks. Just a short drive from Manchester and Liverpool, it’s also quite accessible – and there is excellent WiFi around the major towns and villages, which means that you can stop for an impromptu round of Slingo while you wait for the next boat to arrive.

During your stay, you might hike up to the top of Catbells and look down on Derwentwater. Or, you might rent a boat on several of the park’s many lakes. For some, going wild camping around here will make for a fantastic holiday; for those who’d prefer to retain a degree of luxury, the idea of a glamping spot with a view might appeal.

Brighton – Seaside Fun & Culture

Brighton is defined by its unique local culture. There are a number of small retailers to look at, especially around the Lanes, as well as vintage markets. There’s a thriving nightlife here, too, with a proliferation of excellent bars up and down the seafront. Go paddleboarding near the pier during the day, and retire in the evening for a comedy night at Komedia.

Edinburgh – City Break with a Twist

There are few cities in the UK quite like Edinburgh. Offering an unmistakably Scottish blend of cosmopolitan charm and fascinating history, it can be explored on foot over the course of a couple of days. If you arrive at the right time of year, you’ll also be able to enjoy an impressive range of acts at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe – though you should ensure that you’ve booked your accommodation well in advance if this is your intention.

The Cotswolds – Peaceful Retreat & Pretty Villages

It might be that you’d prefer to take things easy. This being the case, the more tranquil environment of the Cotswolds might well suit you. Stroll between charming villages and market towns. Bourton-on-the-Water is particularly impressive, with its zoo, model village, and assorted tea shops.
