This half term Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT) has some great events for children to get involved with to explore nature on their doorstep. Thursday 1st June will see the start of 30 Days Wild, where we’re asking everyone to sign up and do something wild every day for the 30 days of June.

At the Fine Foundation Chesil Beach Centre on Tuesday 30th May from 10am – 12.30pm, children (£3) and adults (£5) are invited to the Chesil wildlife photography fun day, with photography expert, and DWT President, Tony Bates, MBE. Take your photos and see them on the big screen back in the centre and get some top tips for the perfect shot. There will also be an art exhibition running at the Centre until 4th June, as part of ‘Open for Art 2017’, displaying art inspired by Dorset’s wildlife and natural spaces. Free to attend, profits go back to DWT.

Over at Lorton Meadows in Weymouth on Wednesday 31st May from 10.30am – 12.30pm, children can have a go at pond dipping and discover the amazing underwater world of diving beetles, newts and nymphs. On Friday 2nd June from 10.30am-12.30pm, search for butterflies in our wildflower meadows. Both events have games and crafts, £2.50 each, booking essential on 01305 816546 and children must be accompanied.

On Wednesday 31st May from 11am – 3pm DWT is calling on dolphin-lovers to help us survey for dolphins, seabirds and other marine life from the cliff top at Kimmeridge*. Learn about our resident bottlenose dolphins and find out how they feed and communicate. Art and crafts in the Fine Foundation Marine Centre at Kimmeridge. For more information phone 01929 481044.
