Dorset Wildlife Trust is hosting a variety of spooky events this Halloween, and it’s going to be a scream! 

Kingcombe Meadows Nature reserve provides a fantastic habitat to many species of bats, and we are offering children an exclusive chance to view ghoulish moths and ghostly bats through our remote camera traps on the reserve. They can also have a go using a bat detector, enter a pumpkin carving competition and huddle round for spine tingling story-telling session in our ‘Things that go bump in the night’ event. This event is on Thursday 31st October, 4-8pm at the Kingcombe Centre, £5 per child.    

The Caterpillar kids club at Lorton meadows nature reserve also has a spooky theme, with a creepy quiz and lots of scary activities such as bat mask making! Kids will also get the chance to discover the resident bats at Lorton. Join us on Thursday 31st October, 10:30-12:30, £2 per child. 

Discover the marine creepy critters at the Fine Foundation Marine Centre at Kimmeridge. We have scary, gruesome sea creature stories to tell too! Learn about the terrifying creatures of the deep such as the vampire squid, slimy hag fish and the zombie worm. You can also learn meet the weird and wonderful marine creatures in Dorset and make some scary marine creature masks. Come along on Saturday 2nd November 1-3pm, £2 per child.  

The Purbeck team are taking part in the free ‘Halloween Happening’ event at Wareham library on 31st October from 1-4pm. Everyone is welcome to drop in for some creepy creature activities, including spider hat making and carving animal shapes into pumpkins! 

Communications Officer, Sally Welbourn, said: “Halloween is a great opportunity to invite families along to reserves in Dorset to explore the more unusual wildlife lurking behind the trees and in the depths of the sea. What better way to spend Halloween than discovering what goes bump in the night in the world of wildlife!?”
