There is no doubting that racists and people who scapegoat others to cover up their own inadequacies are triggered. They are triggered by the media both the corporate and social. They are triggered by others around them, who like them them see the world through a prism manufactured for them by angry, disempowered and abusive individuals. They are triggered by politicians, who seek to enable the public to create folk devils that disassociate themselves from responsibility. Just like the zombies in the Walking Dead, these people become dislocated from cause and effect and see and feel only what they have been conditioned to see and feel. This becomes their web until they expire.
Locally, in Weymouth and Portland in Dorset, the triggers are there for all to see. Hostile and inaccurate media stories, for example, GB News and the right wing corporate press, revelling in creating conflict and hate. It is their raison d’etre.
The barge has created a lot of conflict. On the one side the decent. Opposing the barge but treating the refugees… as humans like themselves. Attempting to find solutions and understanding that people running from something that leads them to the UK, governed by sub humans, must be horrendous.
Talking of horrendous, then we have the other side. Ignorant racist wastes of good air who were described by one person on social media as ‘like finding someone has shit in your bed on your honeymoon night’. Toxic and poisonous as has been clearly revealed in their Facebook group.
This conflict is coming to a head now. The latter contain some very nasty elements of the far right and one, if not more, has sent letters to local businesses threatening them, as can be heard below. One such business owner, Ian Ferguson of Weyline Taxis reads out the threatening letter, purported to come from Britain First (Britain First have since denied being the sender).
The following is hate speech and verges on being a serious threat. As a consequence Dorset police are investigating.
The solution, is for all decent people to unite and support each other. Join the Facebook group, reach out and do not jump in the sewer with the racists and the bigots. They must be rejected, challenged, reported or otherwise ignored.
The silent majority live in fear of the toxics but when we unite they are just the scum on the rim of the bath and can be washed away at any time.
Just like the Nazi Party almost were, apart from the vermin that still live amongst us.
Remember those stirring it up, either in Weymouth and Portland or elsewhere, are the remnants of what millions died to try and defeat almost eighty years ago. And here is just a small sample of how today’s far right are similar to their Nazi brethren:
- Propaganda: Both the Nazi Party and many far-right parties have used propaganda to spread their ideologies and manipulate public opinion. They often employ inflammatory language, falsehoods, and fear-mongering to create a sense of urgency or threat.
- Scapegoating and Xenophobia: Both the Nazi Party and some far-right parties have used scapegoating and xenophobia to rally support. They may blame certain groups (such as immigrants, religious minorities, or ethnic minorities) for societal problems and use this narrative to build fear and resentment.
- Demonisation of Opponents: Both groups may engage in character assassination and dehumanisation of their opponents, portraying them as enemies of the state or threats to national identity. This tactic aims to silence dissent and create a sense of unity among their followers.
- Violence and Intimidation: Both the Nazi Party and some far-right parties have employed violence and intimidation to suppress opposition and maintain control. This can range from physical attacks on individuals or groups to creating an atmosphere of fear that discourages dissent. (See letter above).
- Cult of Personality: Leaders of both the Nazi Party and some far-right parties often cultivate a cult of personality, portraying themselves as strong and charismatic figures who can protect the nation from perceived threats. This can contribute to a sense of loyalty and obedience among their followers.
- Use of Symbols and Imagery: Both groups may use symbols, gestures, and imagery that carry specific meanings to their followers, reinforcing their ideologies and creating a sense of belonging. The classic example of this are flag shaggers whose understanding of empirical history is almost entirely non existent.
