BH Green Group will be holding a meeting about hydraulic fracturing (fracking) at the United Reform Church,  62 St. Swithun’s Road,  Eastcliff,  BH1 3RG  (opposite Bournemouth’s Travel Interchange) on Thursday 11th July 7.30-9.30pm.   There will be a presentation by Frack Free Dorset and issues such as earthquakes, air & water pollution, noise, smells, spills, traffic, ill-health, chemicals, security of well-casing, well blowouts,  flaring, carbon pollution including releases of powerful greenhouse gas methane and cost-effectiveness will be  discussed.

The Echo reports (22.6.13) ‘A spokesman for Frack Free Dorset said, “It doesn’t look like Dorset will be top of the list for fracking in the UK but the opinions we’ve heard on its geology are quite varied.”

Drilling licences have already been issued in Dorset and Hampshire and there are concerns that consultation periods may be quite short.  Hampshire Conservative MP George Hollingbery   (Daily Echo 17.6.13)   said, “Any threat to the water supply here would be utterly disastrous – every single person and business relies on that water.”

South East Dorset Green Party Chairman Mark Chivers says, “Fracking looks like a dodgy, dirty, questionable, short-term  fix.   The Green Party urges the Government to invest in clean, inexhaustible and long-term energy sources, supporting our growing low-carbon technologies.  These are set to become safer and cheaper than using fossil fuels in the long-run.”

BH Green Group is a coalition of Organisations and individuals from the BH postal code area that are working together to promote a greener, more sustainable future for the next generation.
