I am beginning to wonder whether the Dorset constituencies are rotten boroughs (apart from a Lib Dem in Poole and Jim Knight in south Dorset from 2001 until 2010). It beats me and many others how or why anyone on local incomes or who have a modicum of self respect could ever vote for a party that is and always has been self serving poodles for the rich. There are some nice Tory MP’s (there must be) who show some soul and there are some nice Tory voters but they are misguided. A harmonious society will not occur by constructing policy that penalises those who struggle from one generation to another. By seeking to widen the gap between the affluent and those less well off and to ferment the animosity between the population, without any intellectual analysis of how and why people behave given specific circumstances does no justice to the population here or anywhere.
Education systems and the media are too often designed to make people look stupid and then the self fulfilling prophecy amplifies this for too many. We have a hierarchical system that both the education system and the media seek to serve instead of enabling everyone to have a fair crack. Until we rid ourselves of self serving politicians, corporate media owners, corporate company bosses and public school bureaucrats then our society, and all similar societies, will repeat the mistakes that doom far too many to a life of misery. From this comes alcoholism, drug addiction, crime surges, unemployment, homelessness, domestic abuse, lower life expectancies, suicide, prejudice, intolerance, a breakdown in community, debt, greed… and so it continues.
This all brings me in my meandering female way to the ‘Harrow boy on his estate’. I would love to celebrate and congratulate him on his decision to ‘put scores of solar panels on 174 acres of his land’ but I just cannot. His pronouncements on the Navitus Bay wind farm which include his belief that
‘the proposals threaten the beauty and UNESCO world heritage status of the Jurassic Coast…’
and his campaign based on spoiling the landscape now leave nothing but a hollow crust. Personally I support both wind farms and solar panels and would much prefer their usage to fossil fuels and nuclear power (at least until we have the capacity for fusion on a macro scale). But to use his political clout to oppose one whilst seeking to profit from the other is modern day party politics to the core and Richard Drax is amongst the standard bearers of this crude concept of representative democracy. He does not represent me or thousands of others. His politics are slimy and weasel like. His capacity to be honest in the sense of having integrity (and the rest of Dorset’s Tory MP’s are no different) is a non entity.
Listen Mr Drax – answer these questions please:
1. How do you justify opposing one on aesthetic grounds but support the other for personal gain?
2. Why don’t you represent your constituents and their long term interests the same way you represent your own?
3. Tell us how you are gaining financially from lobbyists.
4. Are you prepared to stand (or sit as it might take a while) at a podium and answer some questions about your ethics; policy choices and how you accumulated your wealth and privilege?
5. Would you be prepared to suggest that the Daily Echo serves all the community and not just your mutual friends and exclusive groups?
If you could achieve these you might start to have a modicum of respect. I know you fear letting New Labour in and I don’t blame you but we all deserve more than this. Surely with your public school background you have some desire to avoid looking like a prize plonker? We look forward to your response.
