I have had cancer and my sister died of cancer 4 years ago. My brother has just found out he has terminal cancer 10–14 months. All different initial signs.
I had cancer in 1986. It was testicular cancer , a Seminoma. I first noticed that one end of my right testicle was getting harder than the other end. Over a few months it got harder and smaller and very painful. I went to my GP who sent me to a surgeon. He said it was cancer and two weeks later I had it removed followed by 34 lots of radiotherapy. I’m OK now.
My sister who was 10 years older than me initially had breast cancer. Found a lump and had it removed followed by Radiation Therapy.
She was fine and 7 years later she had problems reading , the right side of the page being blurry.
She went to her GP who sent her to see a eye specialist. They gave her a CT scan and before she got the results she was driving one day and had a fit; she was talking gibberish and her right foot was hard down on the accelerator. Her husband passenger put the car in neutral and pulled the handbrake up and stopped the car.
By then my sister was unconscious and her husband called an ambulance. She was unconscious for half an hour.
Two days later they told her she had tumours in her R lung and brain. They took a biopsy and it was small cell cancer, grade 3. They cannot cure this form of cancer. She had one lot of Chemo which made her very ill so they stopped and she went into a Hospice. Because of the brain tumours they gave her steroids which made her face blow up and you could hardly recognise her.
She passed away 5 months later with her husband and one of her sons with her.
My brother about 2 months ago felt a lump in his neck , just above his collarbone. It was the size of a plum. He went to his GP who sent him to his local hospital. They took biopsies and did a CT scan. He already had some form of blood cancer, which he took pills for to keep his red cell levels down.
The biopsies showed small cell cancer , grade 4.
He has a 3cm tumour in his lung and a small tumour in his liver and adrenal gland. He cannot be cured of it but he had his first lot of Chemo on Monday. He has to go through six hours of flushing his kidneys out as the Chemo attacks his kidneys. I don’t know how he is as we left it that he would email me. Without Chemo 5–6 months and with Chemo 12–14 months. The Chemo is a simple Platinum compound but with lots of nasty side effects. (Cl)2-Pt-(NH3)2.
So all the 3 children have had cancer.
I am going to have some of my genes checked, to see if I could catch sclc (Small cell lung cancer).
My father died of COPD due to smoking. He was 57. My mother died 2 years ago; she was 96.
My brother smoked.
I will be last one standing , from the family of 5.
If you smoke , give it up NOW!!
