I DECLARED THAT DARK MONEY-FUNDED “NET ZERO WATCH” IS A NATIONAL SECURITY THREAT ON LIVE TV!
As director of the Climate Media Coalition, I was invited onto Martin Daubney’s TV show on GB News to discuss Ed Miliband’s call for a faster transition to clean energy to protect the UK from future fossil fuel price crises.
I was debating the campaigns director for the Net Zero Watch (NZW) campaign by the Global Warming Policy Foundation (GWPF).
Extraordinarily, despite the current Israeli war on the Iran oil price crisis hammering the British economy, they declared that the UK needed to go back to more coal, oil and gas to be war-ready. They also advocated nuclear power.
In response, I said, “Net Zero Watch are dark-money-funded lobbyists for the international oil industry. They are a national security risk! Having people, whom we do not know who funds them, able to intervene in our national security debate is a real threat to Britain.”
After I pointed out that these oil lobbyists always advocate for the most expensive electricity for UK consumers (fossil fuels and nuclear), the GWPF spokesperson made the extraordinary admission that “cost is only one element”!!
I added that the last Russian-Ukraine oil crisis cost the government £70 billion (and another £30 billion to the wider economy), and so “energy that is inflation-proof is absolutely crucial for energy sovereignty for Britain.”
This is because every decade or so for over half a century, the UK has faced another oil price crisis, damaging our economy, as Israel invades yet another country in the Middle East.
We need to speed up this transition, not slow it down as GWPF keeps lobbying us to do, not only for energy sovereignty but also because it is crucial to slow down the climate crisis now engulfing us.
As I said in the interview, the UK has successfully reduced fossil fuels on the grid to just 28%.
But we have failed almost completely to speed up the transition to electrification of transport and heating, two of the largest sources of our remaining addiction to oil.
I added that as my home is solar- and battery-powered, I know that my electricity costs for the next 20 years will be zero. (Not quite true – I will actually make a reasonable profit!).
I know therefore that I am not exposed to any sudden inflation in energy costs.
Let us have that for Britain—asap.
BUT IT IS TIME TO END THESE DARK-MONEY-FUNDED “THINK TANK” OIL PROPAGANDISTS ONCE AND FOR ALL!!
