The Horizon Post Office scandal revolved around the Horizon IT system, used by the UK Post Office from 1999 to 2015. The faulty software led to the wrongful convictions of over 700 sub-postmasters and mistresses for financial discrepancies that were inaccurately attributed to them. The scandal has gained attention after an ITV drama reignited public interest. The former Post Office CEO, Paula Vennells, returned her CBE in the aftermath of the scandal. An ongoing inquiry, initiated in 2020, is investigating the roles of individuals and entities, including the Post Office and Fujitsu, the developer of the flawed Horizon software.
