Weymouth College hairdressing students showcased their techniques and creativity to a packed audience at the Inspire Hair Show held at the College’s Bay Theatre on Thursday 28th March.

The highlight of the event was a live competition where students were required to produce a hairstyle that reflected ‘Fairytale Prom’ in 30 minutes. Not only was there time pressure, but students had to produce their designs under the watchful eye of top industry judges. Robbie Burt, former student and now Senior & Creative Director at Rush Salon in Kensington, Paul Orscroft, Key Account Manager at Wella UK and Jo Wilcox, Senior Trainer at Patrick Cameron International took to the stage with their clipboards to assess the students’ work.

Apprentice at Hair@29, Natasha Walbanke received 3rd prize and the ‘audience favourite’ with full-time student, Zoe Pritchard taking 2nd place and part-time student, Michelle Acton scooping first place. Weymouth College Principal, Liz Myles awarded the deserving students with a hamper of goodies kindly donated by local salons.

Throughout the evening, the audience were treated to a range of catwalk shows with themes including ‘Tim Burton’, ‘Eco’ and ‘Iconic’, as well as choreography from Performing Arts students who rocked out to ‘Gangnam Style’ and various other classics in a variety of costumes.

Guest judge Robbie, who attended the College in 2010 and was an apprentice at Dorchester salon ‘The Edge’ commented:

“It’s great to come back and visit the College, and support the students in their work. I wish all of them the best of luck in their careers.”

The event raised money for the College’s charity of the year, Margaret Green Animal Rescue (MGAR) who helps rehome over 1,000 unwanted and ill-treated animals each year.
