Jo White MP, The Wife Of Arch Zionist John Mann, Voted For Universal Credit/PIP cuts And To Scrap Winter Fuel Payments For Pensioners

Jo White serves as the Labour MP for Bassetlaw, Nottinghamshire. She describes herself as “a calm, easy-going person with a very good sense of humour. I love watching comedy and I always see the funny side of life. Otherwise it is too sad to contemplate!”

Her husband, John Mann – now Baron Mann – represented Bassetlaw from 2001 to 2019, during which time Jo worked as his office manager.

In Parliament, Jo White is an officer and Vice-Chair of Labour Friends of Israel.

Donations and Perks

Since entering Westminster, Jo White has received a number of donations and benefits:

  • £5,000 from Labour donor Stuart Roden, chairman of Israeli venture capital firm Hetz Ventures, who has donated around £570,000 to the Labour Party.
  • £8,350 from Labour donor Sir Trevor Chinn.
  • £18,000 from Natascha Engel and Palace Yard Communications.
  • £5,000 from Bawtry Farms Ltd.
  • £5,000 from equity firm Tritax Management Ltd.
  • £559 from the British Tamil Forum for a trip to Switzerland.
  • £5,000 from the GMB union.
  • £2,000 from businessman and former Conservative donor Sir Trevor Pears.
  • £2,000 from business tycoon Stephen Rubin.
  • £3,114 from City trader Michael Bullen.
  • £700 in tickets and hospitality from the Football Association for the FA Charity Shield match.

In addition to her parliamentary salary of £93,904, Jo has claimed £36,605.49 in expenses to date. With her donations, housing allowances, and her husband’s House of Lords stipend, she appears well-supported in her parliamentary role.

Voting Record

On 9 July 2025, Jo White voted:

  • For cuts to Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payment (PIP), measures expected to cause further hardship for disabled and vulnerable people.
  • To scrap the Winter Fuel Payment to pensioners.
  • To retain the two-child benefit cap, a policy widely criticised for contributing significantly to child poverty in the UK.

While Jo White describes herself as someone who “always sees the funny side of life”, her recent voting record suggests a firm alignment with fiscal restraint policies – even when these impact some of the most vulnerable groups in society.
