Ex-Tory party deputy chairman Jonathan Gullis, who represented Stoke-on-Trent North until 2024, when the voters kicked him out, confirmed his defection and said he believed the Conservatives had “lost touch with the people it was meant to serve”.

A Black Mamba is more principled than Gullis. But then he joins a political party that welcomes charlatans and liars in the same way Henry VIII welcomed syphilis and gout.
