This Bank Holiday Weekend, Osprey Leisure Centre will host a Pop-up Jurassica Exhibition from Saturday 29th August until Monday 31st August 2015 from 10am to 4pm.
This is a fantastic opportunity to travel back in time 140 million years to experience the terrifying world of Jurassic Dorset and meet the monsters of the deep. The Pop-up exhibition will help visitors understand more about the Jurassica project which hopes to create the world’s greatest prehistoric attraction. The exhibition will include talks, incredible fossils, and hands-on activities for adults and children, plus FREE ENTRY for all.
On Sunday 30th August there will be a Jurassica Walk starting at 12 midday. A 2.5 mile (4km) walk lasting about 2.5 hours taking in the proposed site for Jurassica. The walk will take the group to the east side of the Isle, with great views along the Jurassic Coast, alongside Broadcroft Quarry, to Church Ope Cove, the ruins of Rufus Castle and St Andrew’s Church, past Pennsylvania Castle and into Portland Museum for tea and coffee . Return will be via a westerly route into Easton.
This walk has been created by Jurassic Jaunts for the Jurassica project. Andy Pedrick will be your guide, and will be joined by members of the Jurassica team: geologist Richard Edmonds; planning consultant Mike Kelly; and volunteer Lorna Audley. The walk will take in the boundary of the proposed site, the history, the geology, the scientific significance of the heritage and practical issues such as development, access and traffic.
