Jurgen Klopp, the current manager of Liverpool FC, has announced that he will be stepping down at the conclusion of the current season.
In a statement, the 56-year-old Klopp expressed, “I am, how can I say it, running out of energy. I have no problem now, obviously… I am absolutely fine now. I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again.” Klopp took on the role of manager in October 2015.
During his tenure, Liverpool has achieved significant success, winning the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and the FA Community Shield.
In his statement, Klopp conveyed his deep affection for the club, the city, the supporters, the team, and the staff. Despite this love, he emphasised that the decision to step down is a result of his conviction that it is the right one.
“I can understand that it’s a shock for a lot of people in this moment when you hear it for the first time, but obviously I can explain it – or at least try to explain it,” he said. “After the years we had together and after all the time we spent together and after all the things we went through together, the respect grew for you, the love grew for you, and the least I owe you is the truth, and that is the truth.”
Klopp revealed that he had informed the club of his decision in November. He explained that the nature of his role involves planning well in advance, and during discussions about potential signings and future plans, he realised that he might not be at the helm in the following season. This realisation prompted him to consider his departure.
