Just Another Day on the Frontline in Weymouth

Weymouth’s Neighbourhood Policing Team faced another demanding day of incidents across the town, responding swiftly to a series of offences ranging from school-related concerns to weapons possession and shoplifting in the town centre.

The day began with officers arresting a woman in connection with offences said to be impacting a local school community. Police confirmed that the female suspect was interviewed and later released on bail while further enquiries continue.

Shortly afterwards, officers received information that a man in Weymouth town centre was allegedly carrying a knife. Police acted quickly, locating the individual within a short time of the report being made.

Following a search, officers discovered a knife and immediately arrested the male suspect, who remains in police custody.

The incident also led to police searching other members of the group he had been with. While no further weapons were found, officers issued all other individuals with 24-hour Dispersal Notices, banning them from the town centre for the rest of the day.

The pace of the day did not slow there.

Almost immediately after the knife arrest, officers were alerted to a report of theft from a shop in the town centre, where three males were accused of stealing items.

Working closely with the town’s CCTV monitoring team, police were able to track the suspects as they entered a vehicle and left the area. After a short pursuit, officers caught up with the vehicle and carried out searches of both the occupants and the car.

Police say a number of items suspected to have been stolen were recovered and seized as part of their investigation.

Further checks on the vehicle then revealed that it was untaxed and had reportedly been off the road legally for some time. As a result, the vehicle was seized by officers.

The three males were then directed towards the train station to make their way home and were also served with 24-hour Dispersal Notices preventing them from returning to the town centre.

Police confirmed that the individual responsible for the shoplifting offence will be summonsed to appear before the court.

The series of incidents underlines the ongoing work of Weymouth’s policing team in tackling anti-social behaviour, theft and public safety concerns in the town, with officers once again responding rapidly to keep the community safe.
