Expert HR consultants at Purple HR are seeking to calm workplace concerns surrounding equality laws, following the EU Referendum.

With a considerable amount of the UK’s Employment Law tied to EU Directives, many will be uncertain how areas, such as equality in the workplace will be affected. The UK’s employment and equality laws protect employees from discrimination based on age, disability, gender, race, religion and sexual orientation.

In the wake of the EU Referendum, Bournemouth based HR consultancy Purple HR is seeking to reassure businesses and individuals. Mandy has said:

“These laws have been developed over a long time period and would equally take a long time, with extensive debating and cost implications, to remove.  Now fully ingrained into society and business practices, any government should, therefore, be reluctant to introduce any drastic alterations to existing legislation.”

Many EU derived laws have had a positive effect on the workplace such as ensuring greater protection for agency and part-time workers. Other examples include supporting families in regards to maternity rights and parental leave, stronger anti-discrimination rules and initiatives to increase awareness about the dangers of excessive working hours with the working time directives.

Mandy Fitzmaurice continued:

“We are unlikely to see any radical changes in the coming months and years. We want everyone to know that in the world of HR its business as usual for the foreseeable future. Employment laws, in particular, those concerning equality, are likely to remain unchanged.

“At Purple HR we will continue to help businesses and employees navigate any changes to UK employment laws, offering a cost effective range of outsourced HR Solutions.”
