Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT) is encouraging more young people to get out and experience wildlife with a digital photograph competition.
Created by Ken Dolbear, in loving memory of his wife, the Pat Dolbear Photographic Award is aimed and getting young people to take a second look at the wildlife around them, particularly mini beasts and insects, which are so often ignored.
The competition is open to anyone under 18 who has taken a wildlife picture on their phone or camera in Dorset.
Each month the panel of judges picks the best images, taking into account photographic quality, rarity of the creature and creativity. Prizes of up to £25 in Amazon vouchers are awarded to one or more young photographers, who have proved their photographic talent to the judges.
Joy Wallis, Community Conservation Officer for DWT said “Using your camera or mobile to record anything unusual you spot in your garden, school grounds or when exploring the countryside is a wonderful way to encourage you to really look for what you can find around you, often literally under your nose! We are really grateful to Ken Dolbear for his continued sponsorship of this competition and some excellent wildlife spotting has been recorded as a result.”
