Lighthouse, Poole’s centre for the arts, is pleased to announce the following shows on sale this week:

Pinocchio
Tuesday 2 October, Theatre, 11am, 2pm
Using the classic elements of this tale – a poor woodcarver, the tell-tale growing nose, the dream of becoming a real boy – S&N add their hallmark hilarity, cleverness, puppetry, music, fantastic staging, outstanding performers and extraordinary physical tricks, in their most ambitious production to date. Age guidance: 3+

The Amazing Bubble Man
Wednesday 23 February 2022Theatre2pm
Edinburgh Fringe favourite Louis Pearl explores the breath-taking dynamics of bubbles, combining comedy and artistry with audience participation and enough spellbinding bubble tricks to keep everyone mesmerised.

Dracula
Saturday 9 April 2022Theatre7.45pm
Few stories capture the imagination more powerfully than Dracula. But when James Gaddas (Bad Girls, Coronation Street, Medics) comes across Bram Stoker’s original handwritten copy while working on a satellite channel TV show, what he reads chills him to the bone. This copy contains pages never actually published and leads him to a terrifying discovery. What if everything we thought we knew – was just the beginning?

The Courier (12A)
Friday 3, Saturday 4, Wednesday 8 September, Cinema, 5.30pm (Fri), 8pm (Sat), 4.30pm (Wed)
Benedict Cumberbatch in the true story of a British businessman unwittingly recruited into one of the greatest international conflicts in history, forming an unlikely partnership with a Soviet officer to defuse the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Escher: Journey Into Infinity (PG)
Tuesday 7 September, Cinema, 6pm
The life and work of M C Escher is presented primarily through his own words in the form of his writings being read against a backdrop of images associated with him, including archival footage of the artist and images of his drawings. The documentary is buttressed by commentary from fan, musician Graham Nash who believes his brilliance has not yet been fully appreciated. 

I’m Your Man (15)
Tuesday 7, Thursday 9 September, Cinema, 8pm (Tues), 5.45pm (Thurs)
Tragi-comic tale in which a scientist accepts an offer to participate in an extraordinary experiment: for three weeks, she is to live with a humanoid robot, created to make her happy. Maren Eggert and Dan Stevens star.

Jazz on a Summer’s Day (U)
Saturday 11 September, Cinema, 3.30pm
Landmark concert film capturing the sounds and performances of some of the headline artists at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festivalincluding Louis Armstrong, Mahalia Jackson and Chuck Berry.

The Last Bus (tbc)
Saturday 11, Tuesday 14, Thursday 16 September, Cinema, 5.45pm (Sat, Thurs), 1.30pm (Tues)
Phyllis Logan and Timothy Spall in the story of an old man whouses his free local bus pass to travel to the other end of the UK, on a nostalgic trip but also carrying his wife’s ashes in a small suitcase… taking her back home.

Wildland (12A)
Tuesday 14, Thursday 16 September, Cinema, 5.45pm (Tues), 8pm (Thurs)
Following a car accident in which her mother is killed, 17-year-old Ida moves in with her estranged aunt and her grown up cousins. The home is filled with real tenderness and love, but outside of the house, the family leads a violent and criminal life. 

The Nest (12A)

Rory (Jude Law) is an ambitious entrepreneur who brings his American wife and kids to his native England to explore new business opportunities. After abandoning the sanctuary of their safe suburban surroundings, the family is plunged into the despair of archaic 1980s Britain and their unaffordable new life in an English manor house threatens to destroy the family. 

Souad (tbc)
Tuesday 21, Thursday 23 September, Cinema, 8pm (Tues), 5.45pm (Thurs)
The film revolves around the relationship of two teenage sisters in one of Egypt’s Nile Delta cities. While remaining conservative and veiled among her family and society, Souad is obsessed with her image on social media and goes into several secret virtual relationships with men, constantly lying about her personal life. When her ambitions are crushed by the invasion of her true reality a series of small incidents lead to a tragic event that makes her 13-year-old sister embarks on a real-life journey looking for answers. 

Tickets go on pre-sale to Lighthouse Friends only from Wednesday 11 August and on general sale from Friday 13August.
