Lighthouse, Poole’s centre for the arts, is pleased to announce the following shows on sale this week:

Award-winning pop-up venue Roundabout returns to Poole this autumn with a sparkling programme that includes four world premiere productions and another chance to see The Heart at the Centre of the World, the community play commissioned by Lighthouse.

The portable, in-the-round auditorium will host a series ofunique theatrical experiences presented by Lighthouse andtouring theatre company Paines Plough in Hamworthy Parkfrom Thursday 14 to Saturday 16 October.

The line-up of four world premieres features Black Love,Chinonyerem Odimba’s new musical – a first for Roundabout – in which a sister and brother confront their fears and find their way back to each other; Hungry, a play about food, love, class and grief in a world where there’s little left to savour; Phoebe Eclair-Powell’s new family show Really Big and Really Loudfeaturing a helpful fly called Stephen and some great songs about chips; and Paines Plough Fellow Katie Meredith’s May Queen, a coming-of-age story about a young woman from Coventry on a quest to find her place in her city and in the world.

The programme also includes performances of The Heart at the Centre of the World, the play commissioned by Lighthouse and written from workshops with young people in Poole; Gemma Alldred’s Left Luggage, a one woman show recalling the train journeys between old friends, past lives, and lost lovers; and Drag Me To Love, about a 14-year-old drag queen in Doncaster in 2009 that promises tears and laughter, song and dance, shoulders pads, ripped fishnets and golden stilettos!

Roundabout is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and has been additionally supported by the Theatre’s Trust.

The Battersea Poltergeist

The Midnight Bell 
Friday 19 November, Theatre, 7.30pm
Premiere production of Matthew Bourne’s new work for New Adventures exploring the underbelly of 1930s London life where ordinary people emerge from cheap boarding houses nightly to pour out their passions, hopes and dreams in the pubs and bars of fog-bound Soho and Fitzrovia. 

Saint Petersburg Classic Ballet
Thursday 6, Friday 7, Saturday 8, Sunday 9 January 2022, Theatre, 7pm, Sat, Sun mats 2pm
Under the expert direction of Marina Medvetskaya, the acclaimed Saint Petersburg Classic Ballet returns to Lighthouse with two spectacular productions – Adolphe Adams’ heartbreaking Giselle, and Tchaikovsky’s perennial favouriteThe Nutcracker

Groan Ups

Direct from the West End, something a little different from the creators of The Play That Goes Wrong, a brand-new comedy all about growing up that follows an unruly classroom of six-year-olds on their journey through anarchic high school teenage years to the challenges of adulthood.

Spirit of the Dance
Thursday 24 February 2022, Theatre, 7.45pm
The International smash hit celebrates 21 fabulous years as one of the most successful dance shows ever with a new spine tingling anniversary show.
