The following is a statement released following the High Court decision made this morning following a hearing yesterday in London.

‘I’m very sad to get the news that, sadly, our courageous mayor was not successful in court today. She represented Portland amazingly and we’re incredibly proud of her.

The men received the news that they would be returning to Bibby Stockholm on October 19th. Obviously, this was very difficult for them, as I think some still had hope they may not have to return.

Since I’ve met these men, I’ve been privileged to meet the most lovely, skilled and thoughtful group of people I’ve possibly ever met.

We will continue to support them and make sure we welcome them back. We will continue to show them that Portland is a kind place and a place of love, not hate. If you’re interested in getting involved with the Portland Global Friendship Group, please get in touch. We will need as many hands on deck to support, show kindness and show solidarity to the refugees who will be moving back.’
