When I watched the following I was staggered. If ever a corporate journalist fulfilled the corportate parochial expectations that they impose upon our consciousness Lewis Goodall fulfils this. His inability to understand that he is not qualified to make the assumptions he does and then to propose them as fact is utterly appalling. He is not a psychologist. He is not a mind reader. However, he is a terrible journalist if this is the quality he adheres to.
The whole purpose of journalism is not to make false assumptions. It is not to be loaded. It is to spend considerable time establishing the facts and how they are constructed within a given political, economic and social culture. Then and only then does their questioning… begin to make actual sense. Becoming a corporate stooge for the owners of LBC is not the required trejectory to accomplish this.
Lewis Goodall’s bio reveals he was a political correspondent for BBC Newsnight. He has now joined former colleagues Emily Maitlis and Jon Sopel in making a daily podcast entitled ‘The News Agents’ for media company Global, which owns radio stations including LBC.
He joined Sky from the BBC’s Newsnight programme where he had spent three years reporting on and producing some of the major political stories of the day.
Prior to joining the BBC, Lewis worked for the Institute of Public Policy Research and at ITV (where in his biggest challenge to date, he wrote questions for University Challenge).
Following his graduation from St John’s College, Oxford in 2010 with a degree in History and Politics, Lewis also worked in the United States Congress.
Goodall is thoroughly immersed within the media establishment and can only escape it by becoming aware of it and challenging his pre conceived notions. I await with interest.
