Local author and geologist, Sam Scriven, is coming to Dorset Wildlife Trust’s (DWT) Chesil Beach Centre to give a fascinating talk about the unique World Heritage Site and is fossils, based on his new book, Fossils of the Jurassic Coast on Saturday 24th September from 11am – 12.30pm.

Sam is a professional geologist who works for the Jurassic Coast Team as Earth Science Manager, and has a wealth of experience on the topic, which has inspired him to write his new book, Fossils of the Jurassic Coast.

Sam said, “Unearthing a fossil, either your first or hundredth, is a wonderful moment, no matter what your age or level of interest is.  The thought that you are the very first person to touch, or even see a fossil for millions of years is very special.  My book will transport the reader into the past, using rocks, fossils and science to entertain and inform them about what creatures on earth were like before we came along.  I’m really looking forward to giving this talk at the Chesil Beach Centre.”

The talk will also delve into the Mesozoic Era, exploring themonstrous creatures living along the Jurassic Coast.

DWT’s Steph Aburrow from the Fine Foundation Chesil Beach Centre, said “We are looking forward to welcoming Sam to the Centre.  His book includes a wealth of stunning photographs and specially commissioned illustrations and diagrams to demonstrate the treasures of the Dorset and East Devon coast. All ages are welcome to this talk, and there is something for everyone, whether you’re a novice or an expert!”
