Theo Clinkard’s brand-new double bill Chalk and Of Land and Tongue provides a unique experience in an intimate setting with an evening of startling and eloquent dance that situates the audience right at the heart of the action.
Chalk and Of Land and Tongue will be at Pavilion Dance South West on Thursday 20 November as part of the “Thursday Night is Dance Night” programme.
Chalk
For his stark and poetic duet Chalk, Clinkard draws inspiration from the iconic cliffs of his Cornish home. He is joined on stage by composer James Keane who provides a live score. “Whether formed into luminous, majestic cliffs or crumbling in our hands, chalk is something we could easily dismiss as an abstract or foreign material, yet it is primarily formed of the colourless skeletons of marine life. It once lived”, explains Clinkard his fascination with the subject.
Of Land and Tongue
An accumulation of untranslatable words from foreign cultures are brought to life to compelling and occasionally hilarious effect in this dance of odd sensations and unnameable experiences, which will be performed by an exceptional cast of five.
“Clinkard’s ability to draw together an integrated theatrical experience … shows a sure touch of class.” – Graham Watts (Dance Tabs)
