Lyme Splash, a not for profit community organisation, has launched the first Lyme Regis to Charmouth Challenge 2016 that takes place on Sunday September 11th.

Two hundred swimmers are invited to register at www.lyme-splash.com to swim the 1.7 nautical miles, or for those not of a nautical nature 3.15k, and to donate tolocal charities B Sharp (children & young people’s music participation charity), The Marine Theatre and National charity Water Aid.

Swimmers get an opportunity to take part in an organizedopen sea journey around part of our beautiful Jurassic Coast.  There will be two groups split into two waves. Those that wish to go faster, where time matters, will be in the DASH wave and those who wish to be a bit more leisurely, multiple non-racing speed SPLASH wave.

All will have to be competent open water swimmers who have swum at least a mile in open water. This is a full wetsuit event and swimmers will be RFID tagged and checked in and out of the water, with safety boats and crew supporting the partially buoyed route.

The cost to register is £25 and each swimmer is being asked if they could donate £30 – ask six friends for a fiver – or more for the selected charities.

“We aim to celebrate the water facilities that Lyme Regis and Lyme Bay has to offer. Highlighting the wealth of water-sport clubs and opportunities here, we’ve worked together to make this event happen, both for locals and to attract more business into the local economy.” Said Karen Durham-Diggins, Chair, Lyme Splash.

““It’s great having the support of Graham Forshaw MBE – the Harbour Master, the RNLI, Lyme Regis Town Council, Charmouth Parish Council & Foreshore Committee, Lyme Regis’ Power Boat and Sailing Club, local swimming group Jurassic Coast swimmers, as well as physiotherapists, first aiders and volunteers from both Lyme Regis and Charmouth – although we always on the look out for more!” Added Karen.

Some splendid local sponsors are helping on the day. Dorset Tea is joining us and giving all our swimmers and volunteers a hot cuppa on finishing the challenge, great presentation prizes, goodie bags and a super raffle prize. Moores biscuits are providing our swimmers and volunteers biscuits to replenish them and a raffle prize. Lyme Rib rides will be whizzing our swimmers back after their swim from Charmouth to Lyme Regis.

Raffle tickets can be bought online from the Lyme Splash website, in local shops or on the day from the registration tent or the Marine Theatre.

Prizes include: A four course dinner for two from River Cottage, A year’s supply of Tea and a Tea caddy from Dorset Tea, a basket of seasonal fruits and produce from Millers Farm Shop, a bottle of Lyme Bay sparkling wine from Ammonite Fine Foods, and a main meal for two at The Pilot Boat.
