Significant work by Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council to improve the journey experience and safety of road users takes place at the Tower Park Roundabout in Poole next week.

The work includes resurfacing of the roundabout and its approaches and exits to enable smoother journeys through the area.

A visibility screen on the central reservation, to slow eastbound traffic approaching the roundabout, will also be installed. This will improve road safety and ease congestion at peak times.

Alterations to the lining at the Oakdale Road junction are also being carried out, to improve safety at this location.

The work begins at 5am on Monday 17 April for a period of up to five days. A continuous 24-hour road closure will be in operation and there will be heavily restricted vehicle access at all times;

On the A3049 Dorset Way, eastbound traffic from the Fleetsbridge roundabout wishing to head north to the Mannings Heath roundabout is restricted to one lane on approach to the Tower Park roundabout and a temporary 30mph speed limit.

The A3049 Dorset Way route moving southbound from Mannings Heath roundabout, towards Fleetsbridge and via the Tower Park roundabout will closed to all traffic.

On the B3061 Old Wareham Road there will be no access to or from the Tower Park roundabout.

The A3049 Dorset Way ‘On Slip’ from Yarrow Road/Ling Road roundabout, adjacent to McDonalds will be closed to all traffic, with no access to the A3049 Dorset Way. The remainder of Yarrow Road and Ling Road roundabout will be open as usual.

Tower Park and its businesses remain open as normal, accessed via Yarrow Road.

Julian McLaughlin, BCP Council’s Service Director for Growth and Infrastructure said;

“Tower Park roundabout is an important link between Poole and Bournemouth, serving large volumes of traffic every day. Over the years many potholes and cracks have formed and the site is in urgent need of maintenance.

“This treatment involves laying asphalt and cementitious grout on top for increased strength. The fresh material takes time to cure but this week of work will ensure durability and lasting performance of this essential highway hub for many years to come.

“There is never a good time to do this and we appreciate these works will heavily restrict resident’s ability to travel around this area, so we would advise that plenty of time is left to complete journeys.”

The road is expected to reopen again at 6am on Saturday 22 April.
