Emergency services are currently dealing with a major incident at an Agincare care home in Swanage, Dorset, where two people have been taken to hospital. The South Western Ambulance Service was called to the home at 5.20am and responded with a hazardous response team, 10 ambulances, and a significant number of additional resources. Two patients were transported by land ambulance to Poole Hospital.

The care home, which is run by Agincare and houses 48 elderly residents, including some with dementia, was fully evacuated. All residents were safely moved to a nearby church hall. One family, contacted by the care home on Wednesday morning, was reassured that everyone was “fine.”

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service dispatched four crews to the scene on Ulwell Road after being called at 7.47am. Two additional crews from Hampshire and the Isle of Wight also attended. Group manager Neil Tidball stated that firefighters were working in coordination with Dorset Police, South West Ambulance Service, and other partners to manage the situation. Dorset Police have not yet released details of the incident.

Agincare, founded in 1986 by Derek Luckhurst, has grown into one of the largest independent care providers in the UK. The company offers residential, live-in, and domiciliary care, with a focus on supporting elderly people and those with dementia. It operates multiple care homes across the country and has built a reputation for its person-centred approach to care.
