Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward following a report of an assault in Bridport.

It was reported that between 10am and 1pm on Sunday 26 May 2024 a 19-year-old man was assaulted by a man and a woman near to the Esso garage in East Road.

The victim sustained a broken jaw as a result of the incident.

Following enquiries, a 29-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, both from Bridport, were arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm. They have been released on police bail as further investigative work is carried out.

Detective Constable Erin Kinghorn, of Dorset County CID, said: “We are continuing to investigate this matter and I am keen to hear from any witnesses or anyone with information that might assist our enquiries.

“In particular, I understand there was a member of the public who went to intervene during the incident, and I would be keen to speak to this individual and take their account of what they saw.

“I would also urge any residents with home CCTV or doorbell cameras, or motorists with dashcam who were in their vicinity, to please review any footage to see if they have captured anything of relevance.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55240079038. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
