Man arrested following ‘antisemitic’ assault in Swanage

Officers are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward as they investigate a reported assault and hate crime incident in Swanage.

At around 11pm on Saturday 4 May 2024 a man and woman were reportedly assaulted by another man in Swanage High Street. It was further alleged that the man made anti-Semitic comments toward the victims.

Neither victim suffered serious injury.

A local man aged in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of religiously aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm and assault and he has been released on police bail as further enquiries are conducted.

Police Constable Katy Ross, of Purbeck police, said: “We are continuing to investigate this matter and I am keen to speak to any witnesses who have not already spoken to police.

“I would urge anyone with information that might assist our enquiries to please get in touch.”
